Webinar – Explicit Teaching and StepsWeb

Explicit teaching has, quite rightly, become a higher priority in our literacy teaching now there is more emphasis on the Science of Reading.   This webinar examines the concept of explicit teaching in more detail and looks at where it fits within the structured literacy framework.  It will look at both our theoretical understanding and also practical considerations.

The webinar will also cover how we can meet all the criteria for explicit teaching and structured literacy in ways which address all the needs in your classroom.  StepsWeb is often used as a whole-class literacy progression in its own right, but it is also frequently used to reinforce other evidence-based programmes such as iDeal, BSLA or MultiLit.   We will look at different options for using StepsWeb for whole-class teaching in those contexts, with a particular emphasis on the need to meet individual needs.  We will be covering:
  • Theory and research behind the explicit teaching concept.
  • Teacher perceptions (and some misconceptions!).
  • Different ways of incorporating explicit teaching.
  • How to use StepsWeb to most effectively reinforce your literacy teaching.

The webinar will include the opportunity for questions and discussion, so you’ll be able to ask about issues you face in your classroom.
